The June issue of NV magazine features an article about IT companies established by large Ukrainian businesses. One of the key examples is MODUS X, which develops digital solutions for the DTEK Group. The company’s experience was shared by its CEO, Dmytro Osyka.
“In-house development allows us to better adapt to real-world business needs. One example is a mobile application for maintenance crews that inspect power grids and carry out technical maintenance. Off-the-shelf solutions did not allow us to cover all the processes in a single application, so we developed our own tool. It brought key processes together in one application, with a payback period of several years,” said Dmytro Osyka.
The article also highlights that combining in-house and external expertise is a common practice. Companies typically adopt this approach when scaling processes or addressing highly specialized tasks. As the MODUS X CEO emphasized, this combination makes it possible to achieve the desired results faster.
According to IT Ukraine, companies usually rely on in-house specialists for core expertise and product development, as businesses increasingly seek to retain key competencies internally. As Dmytro Osyka added, MODUS X focuses on finding the right balance: keeping core competencies in-house while being able to strengthen the team where it makes business sense.
The publication also features examples of other Ukrainian companies that have chosen a similar path of digital transformation, including Nova Digital and MHP.
A new model is gradually emerging in Ukraine: an in-house IT team is not only an internal resource but also a source of product development and innovation.
